Sources of Financial Aid

SCC participates in the federal and state financial aid programs listed below. Detailed information pertaining to all programs may be obtained from Financial Aid.

Federal

  • Pell Grant is a grant ranging from approximately $400 to $4731 per year.
  • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is an additional grant awarded to Pell recipients. The amount is based on financial need and available funds.
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS) is awarded on the basis of financial need and available funds; students are paid bimonthly at a rate of $7.15 per hour.
  • Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan -- $3500 for first year students and $4500 for second year (30 plus credits in degree of study) students enrolled in a program that is a full academic year program. Repayment begins six months after student drops to less than half time status, completes their degree or stops attending; student has up to 10 years to repay. Current interest rate is 0% in-school (subsidized by federal government) and variable with 8.25% cap during repayment.
  • Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan -- Same amounts as Subsidized Stafford, if student is not eligible to receive funds from the Subsidized Stafford Loan, plus an additional $2000 not to exceed $5500 for first year students and $6500 for second year (30 plus credits in degree of study) dependent students and $9500 for first year independent students and $10,000 for second year independent students. The interest and repayment terms are the same, except interest is not subsidized and will accrue during in-school and six-month grace periods.
  • PLUS Loan Program - -- Annual loan limit is the dependent student’s cost of education minus any estimated financial aid received. Repayment begins within sixty days of disbursement, with up to ten years to repay. Interest rate for new borrowers is variable with a 9% cap.

State

  • New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) is available for Full Time students attending New Jersey postsecondary institutions, including community colleges, state colleges and private schools.   • New Jersey Part-Time Tuition Aid Grant is for County College Students Within the limits of available funding, this program provides pro-rated awards to New Jersey county college students taking 6 - 11 credits per term, who are otherwise eligible for the Tuition Aid Grant Program.
  • Educational Opportunity Fund Grant (EOF) -- awarded on the basis of academic criteria and financial need
  • New Jersey Bloustein Distinguished and Urban Scholars -- High School students in their senior year are selected by their high school counselor and awarded by the Higher Education Student Services Association (NJHESAA) on the basis of academic achievement to students attending college full time.
  • Garden State Scholars' Program (GSS)
  • Public Tuition Benefits Program
  • New Jersey Class Loan Program -- Annual loan limit is the cost of education minus any estimated financial aid received. Three repayment options: 1) defer all payments until after graduation; 2) pay interest only; 3) pay interest and principal. Students must take full Stafford eligibility first.
  • NJ STARS Program

Other Program

SCC Scholarships

  • Merit based aid is offered through the college including academic and athletic talent scholarships. Booklets listing the names and criteria are available in Student Services. Keep in mind that the application must be made every year and the deadline is during the spring semester for the Fall semester of the same year.

Other Opportunities

In addition to the financial aid opportunities listed above, certain students are eligible to receive aid from the Veterans Administration, Social Security, Job Training Partnership Act, New Jersey Rehabilitation Commission and private organizations or clubs. Institutional, state or federal aid may be reduced if outside aid is received.
